It rained steadily on my return trip from Cedar Rapids to the Chicago area, however it occasionally subsided enough to grab a photo or two. This is the Wapsipinicon River Br on the UP (C&NW) mainline near Wheatland IA, looking east.

In the continuing drizzle, an eastbound UP unit coal train approaches the western outskirts of Clinton IA.

This southbound DM&E (CP) merchandise train was operating on the Sabula-Davenport IA line, a few miles south of Camanche IA.

Having changed crews, the eastbound UP coal train seen before heads east from Clinton, across the river and into Illinois. It looked like the "sun" had fallen from the sky into the industrial complex behind the train. It sure wasn't above me!

In the midst of thunderstorms all around me, I found this old barn and '54 Cadillac along Lincoln Highway (Old U.S. 30) near Flagg IL.

Passing through Rochelle again on my return trip to Chicago, a UP westbound train heads off into the stormy distance.

With severe storms and tornado warnings out for the entire Chicago area, I put up for the night outside Rochelle. In the morning, before leaving town, brief breaks of sunlight permitted a shot of this UP eastbound train from 9th St.
